KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — The Ukrainian government on Wednesday launched a new initiative meant to streamline and promote innovation in the development of drones and other technologies that have been critical in the war with Russia. As part of the initiative dubbed BRAVE1, the government hopes to bring state, military, and private sector developers working on defense issues together into a tech cluster that would give Ukraine a battlefield advantage.“Considering the enemy that is right next to us and its scale, we definitely need to develop the military tech so that we can defend ourselves,” Mykhailo Fedorov, Ukraine’s minister of digital transformation, said. Fedorov told The Associated Press ahead of Wednesday’s official announcement that the government had earmarked more than 100 million hryvnias (about $2.7 million) to fund projects that have the potential to help Ukraine win the 14-month conflict. “There are many people on the battlefield now of the young generation that can w...Multiple 18-year-olds arrested in deadly rock-throwing crime spree

(CNN) — A pair of new laws in Mississippi is leaving Jackson divided, with some hoping they will save a capital city wracked by a rise in homicides while others see an echo of a racist past.As part of the laws, the state of Mississippi will expand its law enforcement reach over the entire city of Jackson and implement major changes to its judicial system.Democratic elected officials in Jackson call the laws a “slap in the face of our city” and a regression toward the state’s painful Civil Rights era past. On the other hand, those that pushed for the laws say it is a necessary public safety move for a city that has seen a sharp rise in homicides.Jackson’s homicides per year have doubled over the last decade, peaking in 2021, when the city’s murder rate more than 12 times the national average, making Jackson one of the deadliest cities in the United States.“The fact is that Jackson has so much potential. A year ago, Duncan Robinson essentially was finished at the start when it came to the postseason. Even with a 27-point playoff-opening performance in a victory over the Atlanta Hawks, the writing was on the wall for the Miami Heat’s 3-point specialist.Soon enough, his job would become Max Strus’ job, largely because of concerns on the defensive end.By the second game of the 2022 postseason, Robinson was down to seven minutes of action. He would not play more than 14 for over a month. Five times during the Heat’s run within a game of the NBA Finals, he was held out by coach’s decision, including the playoff finale against the Boston Celtics. This season, it appeared it would be trending in that direction again for the fifth-year guard. Then starting shooting guard Tyler Herro broke his right hand in Game 1 of this best-of-seven Eastern Conference series against the Milwaukee Bucks. And then Robinson became something he hadn’t been for most of the past 12 m...Workers strike could impact MTS routes
