Former NFL star Bill Romanowski and his wife dodged more than $15 million in overdue tax payments by siphoning money from their nutrition supplement company and using it to pay for plastic surgery, spa appointments and other personal living expenses, according to a civil complaint filed this week in federal court. The claims against the former linebacker and his wife, Julie Romanowski, come as the Internal Revenue Service seeks to finally collect on a ballooning tax bill for the East Bay couple dating back 25 years — one that has grown by millions of dollars since authorities first won a court decision a decade ago, authorities say. Most recently, federal prosecutors say the couple used a Solano County-based company they founded, Nutrition 53, to pay for their living expenses while avoiding payment on their outstanding taxes. On Wednesday, the Department of Justice asked a judge to foreclose a lien on the company — which hawked protein shakes from headquarters in Fairfield...Taylor Swift course at Stanford to focus singer's musical eras

DENVER (AP) — An eclectic crowd of thousands — podcasters, vendors, startups, seekers — swarmed a psychedelics conference in Denver this week to experience everything from a dimly lit hall packed with kaleidoscope art and a wide-ranging lineup of speakers from a former Republican governor to NFL star quarterback Aaron Rodgers. The conference, put on by a psychedelic advocacy group, took place months after Colorado’s voters decided to join Oregon in decriminalizing psychedelic mushrooms. While it’s a sign of growing cultural acceptance for substances that proponents say may offer benefits for things like post-traumatic stress disorder and alcoholism, medical experts caution that more research is needed on the drugs’ efficacy and the extent of the risks of psychedelics, which can cause hallucinations.Rodgers, who’ll soon debut with the New York Jets after years with the Green Bay Packers, spoke Wednesday night with podcaster Aubrey Marcus. Rodgers described taking ayahuasca with his te...Angels infielder Gio Urshela probably out for season with broken pelvis

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — A U.S. appeals court on Wednesday halted a lower court ruling that would have shut down southeast Alaska’s chinook salmon troll fishery for the summer to protect endangered orca whales that eat the fish. The ruling by a three-judge 9th Circuit Court panel means the summer chinook, or king, salmon season will start as usual next week for an industry that supports some 1,500 fishery workers in southeast Alaska. The opinion said the state and others who were part of the appeal established a sufficient likelihood that certain and substantial impacts of the lower court’s decision “outweigh the speculative environmental threats.” The ruling will allow the fishery to continue while the appeals court considers the lawsuit more broadly. The ruling “recognized the absurdity of closing down a vital economic industry for an issue that is already being remedied by the federal government,” Alaska Attorney General Treg Taylor said in a statement. “Thanks to the 9th Circuit, ...Suarez retirement rumors cause concern at Brazil’s Gremio

Over the weekend, Hill posted a video of himself with his agent fishing on a boat with a caption that said he was in a 45-minute battle with a shark and “good times.” The post has since been taken down, one source...Picture of baby gator appearing to smile and wave near Daytona Beach goes viral
